To the south-west of Mahé, in Baie-Lazare, at the historic place where Lazare Picault discovered the Seychelles in 1742. The hotel is 28 miles from Victoria, the capital of the Seychelles. Expect 30 minutes for the transfer from the airport located 12 miles away.

To reach the beach, you have to cross the main road passing below the Lazare Picault Chalets. The location of the cottages perched on a hill side makes the establishment unsuitable for elderly and disabled persons. Also note that there are few activities for entertainment: this place puts a premium on rest and relaxation in a sublime setting. Note: every year the hotel closes from 1st to 30th June.

Lodging advice

Families will find more space in the 2 villas located by the road, which are also suitable for the elderly and disabled persons - no need to climb to reach the room. However, you will no longer have the splendid panorama offered by the rooms perched on the hill and you will need to get used to the road!

6.5/10

Hanging to the hill side, the 10 chalets of the Lazare Picault offer a wonderful view of Baie Lazare. We reach it through a small mountain track with an impressive elevation up to a car park. From the reception where the bar and restaurant are located, you are immediately mesmerised by the splendid panorama you see. The disadvantage of this ideal location, is that the place is not suitable for elderly and disabled persons with difficult access to the rooms, wonderfully disseminated on the seacliff, surrounded by a luxuriant tropical garden. This place, haven of peace and tranquillity does not have sports infrastructures or special equipment.

7.5/10

The 14 rooms, divided into 3 types; 3 standard chalets, 5 senior chalets, and 2 junior chalet suites, all offer a splendid panorama of Baie Lazare. Finely decorated in modest Creole style, they have individual air-conditioning with ceiling fan, a mini-bar with tea and coffee facilities and a safe. However, there is neither television nor telephone. Room-service is available from 7:30 am to 9 pm. Only a bar of soap is available at the bathroom, which has a shower but no dressing gown (apart from the 2 junior suites and 2 villas). A hairdryer is available on request. The hotel also proposes 2 villas with 4 rooms, located a bit further away below, by the road: the view is less splendid but these rooms are ideal for families or elderly or disabled persons, and have a furnished kitchen.

7.25/10

The Lazare Picault Chalets proposes a bar serving various tropical cocktails and a restaurant sea food, international and Creole specialities, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The terrace part offers a sublime panoramic view of the ocean. Specialities like curry octopus, sea food cooked with spices, or an assortment of chutney are served à la carte, as table d'hôte in a marvelous setting. This British speciality from the colonial period is a sweet-sour spice prepared with exotic fruits (mango, coconut, banana, fig) or vegetables, cooked in vinegar, sugar and spices.

7/10

You reach Anse Gaulette, the beautiful fine white sand beach surrounded by coconut trees by crossing the road. The beach is not equipped but the hotel gives out towels cheerfully, also snorkelling equipment (masque, palmes and tubas). From December to March, North-West trade winds bring back algae to the shoreline.
