The hotel is located on the hills of Saint-Leu, some 1,640 ft from the beach and 1 mile from the town centre. Saint-Denis airport is 31 miles away. For the transfer, you should plan about an hour and a half or two hours depending on traffic.

Located overlooking the lagoon of Saint-Leu, the Blue Margouillat is a private place. The number of the rooms is limited, but personalised service to customers is assured. Yon can enjoy the ambiance of a large Creole house furnished as an art gallery.
Be careful, the gastronomic restaurant is very expensive, and sports and bathing enthusiasts will have to walk a little bit (1,640 ft). It is better to rent a car than having to descend (and climb) the steep hill where the hotel is located on foot. You may also take the opportunity to explore the southern coast, which is very accessible from the Blue Margouillat.

The Blue Margouillat owes its name to a small lizard dwelling on the island that comes out only at night. With their transparent bodies, gold dust day geckos (margouillats) are real natural insecticides. A good bargain to enjoy its evenings free and easy! Built in 2000, the Blue Margouillat hotel is certainly one of the prettiest Creole houses in Saint-Leu. Erected on two floors, with a corrugated turquoise roof and a verandah decorated with pelmets, this hotel overlooking the sea proudly displays the care that has been given to every detail of it. Furnished with elegant lounges made of mahogany (replicas of models originally manufactured by the Indian Company), the reception has a tiled floor which reminds the red concrete used as floor polish in traditional houses on the island. Particularly pleasing is the verandah (or sheltered terrace), which borders the façade and is perfect for having a drink, reading a book or simply letting your eyes wander over the swimming pool. Ideal for breaststroke swimming (less ideal for long swims), it is surrounded by a sun lounge, which is very well equipped (teak deckchairs, mattresses, towels and parasols). You can decide to prolong your siesta, staring at the everchanging blues of the Indian Ocean.

The strong point of the hotel. The 14 rooms at the Blue Margouillat all overlook the lagoon. Choose upper rooms for the view and the light. They each have a balcony equipped with blinds and a comfortable garden furniture in teak. Perfect for admiring the sunset, while preserving your privacy! Relatively spacious, the rooms are decorated with modest good taste, like the rest of the hotel: tiled floor, white walls, low beds made of mahogany, beige and ecru draperies. However, an extra touch to the decoration (a bunch of flowers, pieces of art) would be a welcome. As for the facilities, air conditioning is provided in the rooms, as well as telephone and satellite television (8 channels including 3 local stations of La Réunion). However, there is no mini-bar and the safe is available only at the reception. The bathrooms have separate toilets. They have two sinks (but no shelf to store anything), a bath, a hair dryer and personal skin care products.

Located on the verandah, the restaurant has a superb view of the swimming pool and the Indian Ocean in the background. Very pleasant during the day, the entire setting becomes even more romantic when the night falls down and the lights catch the reflection from the mahogany tables and chairs. In the morning, a tray loaded with bread, viennoiseries, jams and a plate of fresh fruit (mango, banana, pineapple), fruit juices and hot drinks is served. For lunch and dinner, the menu combines Creole dishes with Mediterranean flavours, Provençal herbs, olive oil, garlic and onion. Meat and fish are also served such like. The combination is interesting. You will appreciate the tuna tartare, the specialty of the hotel.

The beach is located directly below the hotel. It can be reached along the road, about 1,640 ft away. Originally composed of both volcanic and coral rocks, this beach has grains of black and white sand. Bordering the lagoon of Saint-Leu, the beach provides no special facilities. You should not forget to take along a towel and sunshade if you want to bask on the sand. However, you won't need snorkeling equipment as the sea bed is not as clear as where floored with white sand. In Saint-Leu, there are water sports centres offering diving and game fishing courses.
