Review: Petka Hotel

The Petka hotel is the only hotel in the port of Gruz. Even though it lacks charm, it offers modern comfort. The Petka is more an overnight hotel than a vacation destination. Additionally, it is ideal for groups.

The hotel is at a distance from Dubrovnik's historic centre. It is located in the Gruz neighbourhood, facing Lapad peninsula. The landing stage for the islands is at the foot of the hotel. Buses to the city stop in front of the hotel. Close to the hotel, restaurants and cafes attract a young clientele.

The Petka hotel is the only hotel in the Gruz area. It is open all year round. There is an open market twice a week a few minutes from the hotel.

An imposing white, 4-storey building welcomes guests since 1867 in a timeless atmosphere. Renovated in 2003, the Petka hotel offers all modern amenities, even though its massive architecture could appear unattractive for some people. A piano bar located by the lobby offers a relaxing space after a day of sightseeing.

The 104 rooms are quite spacious and bright. Despite a lack of decoration (only one or two pictures on the walls), the rooms are pleasant. The blue fitted carpet and the white walls set the decor. All rooms have television, telephone, mini-bar, air conditioning, storage, and a desk. The rooms have a view, either of the sea, or of the park. Sea view rooms have balconies. The bathroom features a shower, a hair dryer, and welcome toiletries.

5.5/10

A main restaurant is available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, in a large white dining room where numerous bay windows let the light in. There is also a dining room available for groups. Opened in 2004, the Nostromo tavern offers traditional cuisine and fish dishes. The tavern is open to all for lunch and dinner. The decor is in warm ochre and beige tones. It overlooks the street, and a terrace lets guests enjoy the atmosphere of the port.
