Review: Riad Amina Hotel
The first thing you'll love about the riad Amina is its interior courtyard. It provides a calm setting, tucked away in the bustling Medina. The interior is simple but colourful. As is the case with any riad, it's better suited to a romantic stay than a family holiday.
Advantages
- The spacious and luminous courtyard
- The decoration of the courtyard
Disadvantages
- The simple rooms
- The mattresses

The Amina has its own dar, opposite the hotel, which is a small Moroccan house with 4 additional rooms. When you book, inquire as to which accommodation unit you'll be staying in.
7/10
The Riad Amina occupies an 18th century building that was renovated in 2000. The project lasted a year and a half and great care was taken to preserve its original architectural style. The riad used to belong to Amina, one of the sisters of King Hassan II. As in most of Marrakech's riads, one enters through a small door that leads into a large courtyard of brickwork and tiles, decorated with flower arrangements and a magnificent fountain. The atmosphere is relaxing and you can even hear the birds sing. The hotel features an original lounge area, with an intricate ceiling, large wooden doors, and thick walls. The dar that faces the riad was built in 2005 and includes a massage parlour, individual Turkish baths, and a jacuzzi. It also boasts a magnificent painted wooden ceiling but doesn't have a fountain or a courtyard. Don't worry about returning late to the hotel, as there is always someone to open its doors for you. The terrace overlooks the new part of the city as well as the palm grove and affords a magnificent view of the mountains and the road to Casablanca.
6.5/10
The hotel's 12 rooms are divided into 3 categories: standard, superior, and suite. All of the standard rooms afford a courtyard view. Each room has its own specific layout and interior decorating, though red and green seem to be the dominant tones in the rooms and bathrooms. One of the suites has a sofa bed and although the unit is partitioned, it is not made up of 2 separate rooms. The red ceiling is an original feature. The superior room is a duplex that can accommodate more than 3 guests, but it only has one small ground floor bathroom. The brass sinks are surrounded by white and blue tiling and the showers are covered in colourful tadelakt.
6.25/10
The hotel does keep regular meal hours, but guests can pretty much order food whenever they want, as the idea is to make them feel at home. You can choose between traditional Moroccan cuisine and a large variety of specialties: tajine, couscous - royal or with 7 varieties of vegetables, tangia marrakchi, dove or chicken pastilla, and seafood. Among the other homemade dishes on offer you will find samosas (salty or sweet).
