An astonishing 50,000 camels converge on the tiny desert town of Pushkar, in India's state of Rajasthan, for the annual Pushkar Fair. It's a fascinating and peculiar sight, and a great opportunity to witness an old traditional style Indian festival.
The original intention behind the Pushkar Camel Fair was to attract local camel and cattle traders to do business during the holy Kartik Purnima festival,

Perched on the heights of Samode, this magnificent palace has three interior courtyards, one of which was reserved for women and the other for the Maharajah. The hotel is like a museum, and the rooms, which are all tastefully and carefully decorated in many different ways, are surprising. You could spend hours admiring all the details of the wall paintings and the architectural details of this palace in yellow and red hues. The hall of mirrors is impressive and reminiscent of that in Versailles.
Pool, jacuzzi, sports room - all the leisure facilities you could want are here.
In the evening, there are activities for kids between 18h30 and 22h, followed by concerts.
For sports, head to the Samode Bagh, another facility of the hotel located 2 miles away.

41 rooms, of which 23 are Deluxe, 15 suites and 3 royal suites. Nicely decorated with a great deal of charm, they have alcoves, bright colours, wooden furniture, small sculpted columns and beautiful paintings. This setting doesn't seem to have changed in centuries so you feel like you are staying in a museum. Large bathroom with everything you need to get dolled up, a beautiful bathtub and a large shower. Half the rooms have a balcony, which is very pleasant, offering a view over the mountain with the Samode Fort and the valley.

The Samode Palace serves breakfast in bed, in the dining room or by the pool. For breakfast, there is a buffet where unremarkable cuisine is served, and an a la carte restaurant is due to open soon. Dinner is served in the private courtyard, on one of the terraces or next to the candlelit swimming pool. As Samode is a chain, you can also have your meals in the restaurants of its other hotels, on request.
