The Sol Club Cayo Coco is next to the sea, 5 minutes from Cayo Coco aerodrome, in a great location alongside a beautiful beach, just next to Melia Cayo Coco. Apart from a service station for tourists, there is absolutely nothing in the surrounding area, and it takes a good hour of driving to get to Moron by car. As for Havana, you will need to sit on a plane for a few hours.
It is worth bearing in mind that Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo are purely seaside destinations. There are no cultural sites or shopping centres nearby, so the only thing to do is laze around on the beach. The hotel chain Sol Melia has invested in the area, building 4 beachside hotels on the archipelago: Sol Club Cayo Coco, Melia Cayo Coco, Sol Club Cayo Guillermo, and Melia Cayo Guillermo. They attract lots of Canadian tourists but also Argentineans, Germans, Italians, and even the odd American.

This is the real strong point of the establishment, because the rooms are comfortable, spacious, and painstakingly decorated. They are also well equipped with air conditioning, a direct international phone line, satellite television, a fridge, and a safe. The bathroom is large and fitted with a bathtub.
7/10
Built in 1997, the Sol Club Cayo Coco is a big 3 storey building housing 270 guest rooms. Not too big, it is just the right size for a hotel-club. The architecture is quite ordinary without being excessive (on the neutral side). Like most Melia hotels, the interior decor is quite attractive and manages to achieve a look that is both understated and sophisticated. The main restaurant looks a bit too much like a village hall. On the other hand, the pool bar provides a pretty setting in the shade and is a popular hangout after time spent on the beach. Reflective of the hotel as a whole, the service is both welcoming and stylish.

The buffet restaurant is a large (freezing cold) dining room where you can choose from a wide variety of dishes at every meal, including salads, dishes cooked in various sauces, grilled meat and fish, fried chicken, lots of fruits, and all kinds of Cuban specialities. If you book in under the all-inclusive package, you can also dine at the à la carte restaurant, El Rincon de Don Diego.
8/10
The beach is definitely worth exploring, with its clear water, fine clean sand, and areas of shade under the palm trees... It is big enough for everyone to find a quiet spot and there is no booming music or noisy organised entertainment to disturb the surroundings. A good number of straw huts, deckchairs, and showers are all available here. Several times a day, a boat departs to the coral reef for diving trips.
