Birds are extremely numerous. 300 different species have been reported. The most numerous are the puffins. These white and black birds, similar to penguins, have a very colourful bill which makes them look particularly photogenic. You also discover petrels, oystercatcher birds (this black species, with a black beak, is the Faroe Islands' national bird), ducks and wild geese. To see the maximum amount of birds, get to Mykines Island, the furthest west of the Faroe Islands. It hosts a good number of species among which is the Sulidae, that only lives on this territory. Mykines is reachable by ferry or helicopter, departing from Vagar.
