The country's third largest city in terms of population, but the second biggest economic centre in Finland, Tampere is located between two lakes, on an isthmus in the middle of the western lake region. It is a very lively and surprising city that deserves to be visited for a couple of days. Besides the Tammerkoski rapids that crosses the city and connects the two water areas, Tampere is also home to many monuments and leisure activities: the public library, the entertainment park of Särkänniemi (Näsinneula belvedere, amusement park, aquarium, planetarium, zoo for children), the Sara Hildén Modern Art Museum, the Fine Arts Museum, the Häme Museum (historical museum), the Dolls and Costumes Museum, the Lenin Museum, or the Amuri workers' museum-district. The city also hosts many events all year long such as the flower festival in July, the international Theatre Festival in August, the International Scottish Folklore Dance Festival of Pispala in September and the Tampere Jazz Happening in early November.
