There are 12 miles between Helsinki's airport and the centre of town. Plan 30 minutes to get to the north of the town by bus and 15 minutes by taxi.

Be cautious on the road as there are many moose and deer. They regularly cross roads, alone or in herds, especially in the north. A car accident with an animal whose weight sometimes reaches 1,300 pounds can bring about more than the crushing of sheet metal. Drivers are required to keep on their low beam lights day and night. The centre and the north of the country are infested by mosquitoes in the summer (June, July, August). Thus, it is recommended to protect yourself by wearing long sleeved clothes and by using mosquito nets as well as repellent products.
