Alitalia is the main Italian airline company. Eleven years after it was founded (16th September 1946), Alitalia Italiane Internazionali Aerolinee changed its name to Alitalia-Linee Aeree Italiane. It has since changed its name to Alitalia following the fusion of Linee Aeree Italiae and Air One. In 2010, Alitalia decided to market Air One as a low cost company operating flights from Milan, Pisa and Rome. You can now find Alitalia flights to around 83 destinations worldwide and 24 destinations within Italy. Alitalia is based at the Leonardo da Vinci airport in Rome. The private Italian airline company joined the SkyTeam alliance, one of the most important airline alliances along with Oneworld, in 2001.The Alitalia fleet consists of 179 aircrafts, mainly Airbus, Embracer and Boeing.

The Alitalia baggage allowance restricts carry-on bags to less than 8kg in weight and 55 x 35 x 25 cm in size, regardless of the booking class.
