History

Founded in May 1985 and based in Dubai, Emirates Airlines belongs to the Emirates Group. The company serves over 120 destinations in 78 countries across the 5 continents. Its main base is at the International Airport in Dubai and it has become the most dynamic company in the Middle East and a key strategic element in Dubai’s tourism.

Emirates started up with just two hired planes. Today the Emirates fleet is the most modern in the world with 297 planes, principally Boeing and Airbus. Emirates is renowned for its high levels of comfort on board and some of its planes even contain a spa! This airline is also one of the largest buyers of A380.

Emirates’ reputation is strengthened by its sponsoring of sporting competitions such as football, rugby, cricket, golf and horse racing, as well as events such as the Dubai Shopping Festival or sponsoring the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. Emirates has also created its own foundation which brings humanitarian aid to children in distress around the world.Emirates is currently in an alliance with Qantas, the Australian airline company, and all Qantas passengers wishing to travel to Europe will have a Dubai stopover before continuing their journey on board an Emirates aircraft.

Check-in

The Emirates baggage allowance is generous; in Emirates Economy Class passengers are permitted an item of hold baggage weighing up to 30kg, and in Emirates Business Class and First Class this item can weigh up to 40kg and 50kg respectively. On the other hand, bags cannot be larger than 150cm in size and excess weight will incur extra charges.

Hand luggage restrictions depend on the ticket booking class. It is advisable, therefore, to check individual baggage restrictions for each class via the Emirates official website. For example, in Economy Class each passenger is permitted just one item of carry-on baggage (handbag, backpack, portable computer) and this must not exceed 7kg in weight or 55x38x20cm in size.

Emirates check in is available from 24h to 90 minutes before the flight departure. Clients can either print their Emirates boarding pass or present a mobile version of it at the gate. If you are planning on checking-in in person at the airport desk it is advisable to leave at the very least an hour and a half to pass check in and security. Boarding starts 45 minutes before the scheduled departure time and doors close 20 minutes before the flight is due to leave.

Customer and on Board Services

Travellers flying with children are very well catered for on Emirates flights as the airline can provide cots, nursery toys and a changing table. Strollers are also available at the airport. The Emirates menu can be tailored to your personal tastes, diets and religious requirements if the airline is given notice. As for Emirates in flight entertainment, each passenger has an individual touch screen at their disposal charged with various programmes and games. In addition, passengers are able to make phone calls and send text messages on board an Emirates flight, provided their mobile device is switched to silent mode.During stopovers, Emirates customers can relax in a private Emirates lounge for an additional fee. These signature lounges are the ideal spaces to relax, sleep, work in peace, have a refreshment and even reward yourself with a spa treatment.

After Your Flight
