The airline Turk Hava Yollari, or Turkish Airlines, is a semi-public Turkish airline which was founded in May 1933 under the name Türkiye Devlet Hava Yollari (DHY). Today the Turkish state owns 49.12% of its shares. The first international Turkish Airlines flight took place in 1947 between Relia Ankara and Athens.Turkish Airlines is proud of its status as the best European airline company, a title it has won every year since 2011. The baggage allowance for Turkish Airlines Business Class and First Class restricts passengers to two pieces of hand luggage weighing no more than 8kg and no bigger than 23x40x55cm. The Turkish Airlines baggage allowance for Economy Class is one item of hand luggage following the same size and weight restrictions.Turkish Airlines Economy Class ticket holders are also allowed two items of hold luggage weighing up to 23kg, while for Business Class and First Class passengers the maximum weight allowance increases to 32kg for both bags.As for Turkish Airlines check in, luggage registration must be completed one hour before the flight departure time for Turkish Airlines domestic flights, and at least two hours before Turkish Airlines international flights are due to take off. The check in desk closes 45 minutes before international flight departures and 30 minutes before domestic flight departures. Alternatively, passengers may opt for the Turkish Airlines online check in service.
