A view of Bastia The low-lying city of Bastia stretches out along the coast. It is home to a Mediterranean port and picturesque narrow streets. Vladimira Dvorakova / age fotostock;
When in Bastia, get your bearings from the Place Saint-Nicolas, dominated by an imposing statue of the Emperor. Take Rue Napoleon, which will take you to the Terra Vecchia district of the town. Winding alleyways lead down to the town's old port from the Place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville. Stop off at Saint-Jean-Baptiste church on the way before continuing on to the citadel district of the town, to the south of the old port. Then, enjoy a stroll in the Governors' palace courtyard and see a little more of Sainte-Marie cathedral.
