Descending a river by canoe Canoes offer a new perspective from which to view your surroundings, whether on the sea or on a river. Vladimira Dvorakova / age fotostock;
Booming for 5 years now, canoeing-kayaking has made a place for itself in Brittany, as the Brittany League is the leading one in France. The sea kayak is ideal for admiring the richness of the Breton coasts. Light and easy to handle, it allows you to approach places that are otherwise inaccessible by land, such as marine caves, creeks or beaches. Without necessitating any particular physical condition or complex theoretical knowledge, soft water kayaking is attracting more and more people who wish to discover the region in an alternative way. Safer and less physical than sea kayaking, a trip on the rivers in Brittany is synonymous with relaxation, promenades and exploration. Thanks to the routes on the canal from Nantes to Brest (Vilaine or Couesnon), kayakists are offered another vision of the Breton heritage as they stop to admire the landscape. Designed for those who already have the sporting technique for kayaking, the disciplines of slalom and downhill are more centred on sensation than exploration. Able to be practised on nature sites, these activities are to increase in the nationally reputed white-water rafting stadiums at Cesson-Sévigné, Lannion and Lorient. Balance, paddle technique and knowledge of the route and the current are the keys to success in this sport.
