This is the most famous monument in Paris, and possibly the world. Designed by the architect Sauvestre and the engineer Eiffel in 1889 for the World's Fair, the Eiffel Tower was the cause of much controversy before finally being accepted and recognised as one of the most beautiful creations of new modernity. Attracting millions of visitors every day, the 'Iron Lady' keeps a constant watch over the city of Paris.
