Cemetery of the Calvary

Cemetery of the Calvary Calvary Cemetery, Atuona Great men, including the artist Paul Gauguin, are buried in this cemetery. This place has a unique ambience thanks to the abundance of nature. © Ariel Fuchs

In order to get to Calvary Cemetery, where both Gauguin and Brel's tombs lie, you have to go along the small road which passes in front of Jacques Brel's old house. Near the entrance, to the left, lies Brel's tomb. Gauguin's lies to the right of the entrance gate, on a raised terrace. A copy of the statue of Oviri stands over the tomb.
