Moorea, Tahiti's sister island, is a basalt triangle with a spiky mountainous semi-circle in its centre. Mount Rotui's rocky spur (2,949 ft) overlooks the sumptuous Cook's and Opunohu bays. Half a day is enough to go around the island on the ring road (40 miles).
