Paeke's two maraes are a 2 hour walk from Taipivai village; the stony platforms of the altars, made of volcanic tuff, are decorated with tikis (sacred statues) representing pagan gods. The pae pae of Naniuhi Tohua (a 20 minute walk from Hatiheu bay) presents a volcanic wall, tikis, petroglyphs and giant banyans, creating a guaranteed mystical atmosphere!
