Tahiti - Taiarapu Peninsula Its similarity with Normandy in France stops at the scenery: after all, the temperature here is generally 20 degrees higher!! Ralph Braumer / age fotostock;
The Taiarapu Peninsula (50 mile return trip) is the wildest area on Tahiti. Leaving from Taravao, some sites should not be missed including the Vaipoiri cave (walking access from Teahupoo), the Pari coastline, a refuge for naturalists, accessible only by boat (particularly from Auberge du Pari, where cruises on bonito fishing boats are organised between Teahupoo and Tautira), the Taravao plateau, Cook's Bay and the magnificent Tautira black sand beach ideal for swimming.
