The horses

The horses Horses The Marquesas Islands are one of the rare places in the world where you can still find herds of wild horses. © Ariel Fuchs

Marquesan horses are famous, they had been imported by Admiral Dupetit-Thouars in 1842 from Chile, as a gift to chief Iotete. You will encounter wild horses on Ua Pu, in the lush forest of Hohoi, on Ua Huka and in the valleys of Hane and Hokatu.
