2000: Re-election of ChevardnadzÚ.
January 2004: Mikha´l Saakachvili, a pro-western democrat, is elected President with 90% of the votes. The elections take place six weeks after the 'Rose Revolution', which expelled Edouard ChevardnadzÚ from power.
