Germany's oldest university town has an idyllic setting on the banks of the Neckar and is not only a modern centre for scientific research, but also one of the most popular destinations for tourists from around the world.
The splendid castle of Heidelberg, dating from the 14th century, dominates the city. It is the symbolic heart of the city and the best place to admire a marvellous view over the historical centre and the valley with its enchanting atmosphere.
Old Bridge is one of the oldest bridges in Germany and is absolutely splendid, just like the narrow but lively streets of the Old Town, which are best discovered on foot. However, it is comfortably settled in on the funicular dating from 1890 that you can reach the castle from Kornmarkt and then from Molkenkur to Königsstuhl.
