Also known as the "Cathedral of Lights" due to the stained-glass window on the vault of its rotund architecture, the Modern Art Paintings Gallery was designed by the Munich artist, Stephan Braunfels. Inside, the immense grand staircase hosts concerts and shows on its platform between the ground floor and the first floor. The large stretches of white walls add effect to the pure and plain decor. Paintings, sculptures, photos, drawings, models and designed objects from classical modern art (Kandinsky) and contemporary art (including Andy Warhol and a painting of his self-portrait) are exposed on the upper floor. In the basement, the museum displays prototypes of objects from the industrial revolution of the 1960s, next to collections from the graphic arts department and the Architecture Museum.
