The most famous residents of the Rock are the Babary Macaques. The only wild primates living in Europe, these monkeys come from North Africa and are said to have been introduced to Europe in the 18th century. Most of them are found near the Ape's Den (accessible by cable-car) but also in the Upper Galleries' surroundings.
