Aside from visiting the Museum of Archaeology and the Cnossos Palace, it is not worth spending too much time there, because the city, which has no particular charm, is invaded by tourists and has planes constantly flying over it. However, the surrounding region conceals plenty of historical sites. It is a country of mountainous landscapes, plains and plateaus, covered in olive trees. The coastline, from the heights of Ligaria to the village of Limenas Hersonissos, is covered in hotels, from the simplest to the most exclusive east of Heraklion, and in various shapes and styles, evidence of an uncontrolled urban development.
