The word "groenland" means "green land" in Danish. But the country looks more like an ice desert than like a green stretch. Nature is, however, well dispalyed. It is composed mainly of a short flora that appears as soon as the ice thaws. The tundra appears two months per year. Grasslands and multicoloured flower carpets appear in the north and in the south. There are a few trees, which are in fact either birches or willow trees and never grow higher than two metres high. The only fruits that grow in Greenland are berries, including the black crowberry. It is eaten with other berries or used to make liqueur.
