Airports
The airports are located a few hundreds of metres away from the centre of towns. They can easily be reached by foot. The hotel can send in a small vehicle to collect your luggage. The trips being organised most of the time, a quick transfer by car can be planned in the package. Only Nuuk airport is situated a little farther from downtown, but there also, hotels can send a vehicle to pick up travellers and their luggage. You can also take a taxi for about
150 DKK. Airport taxes are about 20 euros, but they are generally included in the packages.

Security
Greenland is a safe country. Be careful of sleigh dogs, they are only half-tamed.

Languages
The official languages are Greenlandic (Inuit dialect) and Danish. English is spoken in the most touristy areas.

Requirements
A valid identity card or passport is sufficient. You have to ask the Danish Foreign Affairs Ministry for an authorisation to visit the North of Greenland (Thule region).

Religion
The Lutheran Evangelical Church of Denmark, which is in the majority, coexists with other small Protestant and Catholic communities. Charmanism is also practised.

Currency
The currency is the Danish Krone (DKK).
£1 Sterling = approximately 8.25 DKK.
Credit cards and travellers cheques are only accepted in the cities. Banks exchange travellers cheques and you can also withdraw cash over the counter here (using Visa, Eurocard or MasterCard). Travellers cheques drawn up in Pounds Sterling are the best kind to take with you. Banks are open from Monday to Wednesday and on Fridays from 9:30am to 5:00pm, and on Thursdays from 9:30am to 6:00pm.

Local transportation
There is no road or railroad between the different towns in the country. Depending on the season and the place, you will have to travel by air or sea. For domestic flights, you will take the plane (or helicopter for cities without any airport). Booking must be made with Greenlandair, Greenland Travel Arctiq Umiaq Line, maritime airline present in all cities. There are several types of packages and passes, depending on the itinerary and the distances. Boats serve the cities and villages of the West coast, from the south to the north. Cheaper than the plane, boat rides are subject to climate hazards. For shorter distances, it is possible to rent a team of sleigh dogs or a snowmobile.

Health
No particular vaccine is required. Protection against tetanus and poliomyelitis is recommended. A vaccination against hepatitis B is justified (strong endemic area). Hospitals and dentists are found in all the cities. Although treatment is usually free, it is recommended to subscribe to medical aid insurance (the E 111 medical form does not work in Greenland, even though the territory is joined to Denmark). It is preferable to bring your own medicines because some can be difficult to obtain once you get there. In summer, mosquito repellent is essential.

Electricity
Voltage is 220 V. Adaptor is not needed.
