Flora

Red flame flowers, beach or inland coconut trees and the cursed fig tree are all part of Marie-Galante's plantlife. The island is essentially covered with sugar cane plantations. You will see mancenillier trees (a sort of Carribean quince tree), but be careful, they are toxic from the roots to the leaves and they grow close to the beaches. Marked by red paint on their trunks to make them visible, when it rains, water running from their leaves is acidic and causes serious burns.
