Our Editorial team's advice

Do not be too picky on the service providers, otherwise you might end up in a bad mood.
For watersport lovers, the right address to know is Marina-du-Fort, right outside of Pointe-à-Pitre.
According to the WHO, the Antilles are breaking records concerning the spreading of the AIDS virus. So therefore, do not forget to bring condoms.
Guadeloupe has three main seaside resorts: Le Gosier, St. Anne and St. François, aligned along the white sand beaches of the Atlantic coast, south of Grande-Terre. This is where most holiday hotels are concentrated, particularily numerous in Gosier, the resort that is nearest to Pointe-a-Pitre's airport (15 mins by car). A couple of hotels are spread throughout Basse-Terre, the wildest part of the island, where the beach sand is grey or black.
The most common hotel package is a 3 or 4-star hotel offering a certain number of activities to do during the day and in the evening. There are also a fairly good number of hotels with rooms and suites equipped with a small kitchen, but that also offer offer eating options such as buffets (optional), and sometimes entertainment. The classic hotels (without any entertainment) only offer accommodation and eating services. Less common, there are five clubs that are "all-inclusive": The Club Med La Caravelle, Look Voyages' Lookéa Fort-Royal, Nouvelles Frontières' Paladien Manganao, Fram's Framissima Arawak and Jet Tours' Eldorador Callinago. In their price, they include all leisure and sport activities, except for motorsports.
Good to know: The beaches located on the Atlantic Ocean (Grande-Terre) get more wind than the beaches on the Caribbean coast (Basse-Terre which are better protected from the trade winds.
To find a restaurant, a shop or a hotel, get the "Ti Gourmet" book, available for free at the tourist offices, or in shops, hotels and restaurants.
