Situated south of Grande-Terre, at the crossroads of the "butterfly's" two wings, Pointe-à-Pitre is of little interest. Crowded and hectic, the island's sub-prefecture is a lot less interesting than Basse-Terre. This last one can be boasting about its colonial past: it awards it with an unquestionable interest whether it is regarding architecture or the culture. Even if you don't stay there, St. Anne deserves to be visited. A lively seaside resort, it still has a very scenic style in spite of its strong tourist development; the island was actually given the name of local "Saint-Tropez".
