Le Gosier, Guadelupe

This is the largest seaside resort of Guadelupe, and also the oldest (it grew in the 1960s) and located closest to the airport of Pointe-à-Pitre (within an hour and a half's drive). Located on Grande-Terre, it occupies part of the South Coast, with its resorts of Sainte-Anne and Saint-François. White sand beaches, lagoon coloured water (that of the Atlantic ocean) and coconut trees make up the daily setting for the visitors who have come here to realise their "caribbean dream".

pros

  •  Shops, supermarkets, nightblubs, casino and varied entertainment within a a short walking or driving distance.

cons

  •  Small beach hotels, often artificial, albeit upgraded, with deck chairs and umbrellas.
  •  "Your" hotel, located between two hotels (known also as Gossier's "road of Hotels"). "Your" beach between two other hotels' beaches. And this is all along the seafront.

  • To see

This is Guadeloupe's largest seaside resort, which is also its oldest (it grew in the 1960s). White sand beaches, lagoon coloured water (that of the Atlantic ocean) and coconut trees make up the daily setting for the visitors who have come here to realise their "caribbean dream".

    To do

The trips that are most often offered are a mini-cruise for a whole day on a catamaran sailing to the island destination of the Saintes, Marie Galante, or the Gosier islet. On Grande-Terre: a one day trip to Pointe-à-Pitre through the mangrove, a day trip in 4X4 along the north coast, very wild, between sugar cane fields and old windmills. On Basse-Terre: one day in 4X4 on the theme of nature (rain forest, excursion to the foot of the Soufrière volcano, the Carbet waterfalls, bathing in a waterfall); a day by 4X4 (visit a rum distillery and a banana grove).

    To think about

Remember to be careful on the roads. Do not forget your sunscreen lotion and a hat.
  • To avoid

The hurricane season (September-October) should be avoided .

    To try

The main dish is the colombo. You will eat a lot of chicken. For a starter, accras cod, Creole blood sausages. Coconut milk is also part of Caribbean cuisine.

    To bring back

You can bring back some rum, punch, madras fabrics, spices, exotic flowers, latania crafts and a CD by zouk.
