Located mostly in the Grand Cul de Sac area, the mangrove is a swampy stretch composed of trees and shrubs, mangrove trees for the most part. You can distinguish several environments: the mangrove on the seafront, dominated by the red mangrove trees that permanently have their roots in the water, the shrubby mangrove with a dominance of black mangrove trees and the high mangrove composed of white mangrove trees. A real ecosystem, the mangrove offers a habitat for many aquatic organisms. It has however often been filled in and replaced by houses or industrial areas.
