Covering a large part of the tropical forest, the National Park of Guadeloupe on Basse-Terre allows you to easily discover nature that is still untouched . It hosts several species of animals, including a very rare species of iguanas that have thorny crests, very difficult to observe. At the crossroads of the underbrushes, you can often see a racoon or an agouti, another rodent that is becoming extinct. And although you meet some mongooses in the cultivated areas, the coastline is also a place preferred by birds: Cattle egrets, frigates and ortolans, while hummingbirds nest near homes to feed themselves. Finally, more disgusting than dangerous, the matoutou is a big hairy spider that belongs to the trapdoor spider family. In this living cathedral, the swampy coasts ease the expansion of mangroves.
