Subcoastal swamps are located east of Cayenne, at the foot of Kaw Mountain. Scattered vegetation, composed of shrubs and semi-aquatic plants, are what essentially make up the subcoastal swamps from which a few trees sometimes rise to form 'pinotieres' and that's when real swampy forests take root.
