19th century façades in bleached wood, a waterfront invaded by walkers and with the arrival of spring, colourful kites and smiling people. Guyana's capital, Georgetown, partly destroyed by a fire in 1945, kept nice buildings, such as the Victoria, Law Courts or the Magistrates Court, on High Street and avenue of the Republic. Saint George's cathedral (built in 1889) is known for being the world's highest wooden monument at 144 feet. The National Museum exhibits a collection of items from the country's different origins, and a model of the city before the fire. For an evening drink, take a look at the perfectly cut lawn at the city's cricket club. At night, for dinner, go have a drink or dance a little in the area of Camps Saint.
