Guyana is a destination for travellers passionate about wildlife. In Shell Beach, sea turtles land on the beach to lay eggs. Hatching happens in August and the spectacle is worth a trip of a few days. Nearby, macaques, parrots and toucans never relax. The Iwokrama forest is a unique observation site for jaguars. In the Rupununi savannah, parakeets, falcons, and storks offer an endless show to the visitor. In the neighbouring mangrove on the coastline, it is common to bump into iguanas and in the jungle near Kaieteur waterfalls, wildlife is composed of tapirs, ocelots and monkeys amongst other things. Swimming in rivers is forbidden in many areas as they are infested with caimans.
