Finding the perfect headphones has, thanks to ever expanding internet, become something of a mammoth task, with everyone from Sony to Bose to Skull Candy releasing a new model every week. And for the lowly traveller, with a small budget, long journeys to fill and a tight baggage allowance, it's just not feasible to carry around a chunky set of expensive headphones that break the moment you leave them in your bag. Never fear, music-loving travellers, there is a solution.
After scouring the sites of the biggest, the best, and the frankly all-too-common mediocre, one brand seems to stand out from the rest like a sore thumb. The Sony MDR-V6 foldable headphones are compact, long-lasting and - best of all - you don't have to pay through the roof for them. Available from Amazon for a mere £51.15, these headphones really do give you all the flexibility you need for travelling, without compromising on sound.
Remarkably comfy, even after hours of listening, the padded head band (adjustable, of course) means that their weight is distributed over a larger area, leaving you to listen in complete comfort. And when we say no compromise on sound, we mean it...every syllable. The bass is clear and deep, at low volume as well as high, producing a sound quality that is near on impossible to find for this price, or any price at all for that matter. The large oval padded ear pieces reduce outside noise, so you can listen in peace and tranquillity on the very busiest of public transport.
The strange thing about these is that they've been on the market for 15 years, and are still going strong. Sony has released countless other designs but never seen fit to take the MDR-V6 out of production - that can only bode well in a world where technology seems to outdate itself every couple of years. So durability is covered, but what about transporting them? Their foldable but relatively robust design allows you to pack them discreetly away in their pouch without having to worry whether they'll still be in one piece when you reach your destination.
As far as cons go, there really aren't many to mention. Despite their foldable design, they are still quite large, and certainly not for those who don't like the size of over-the-ear designs. Then again, an enclosed ear means better noise control, and these headphones aren't noise cancelling so there's got to be a little compromise somewhere.
But we reckon Sony's chosen to compromise in exactly the right places, and for a price like this, you can stop your searching right now - MDR-V6 is the way forward.
