Calling all 007 wannabes, here is a gadget that will really have you feeling like the jet-setting spy you always wanted to be. The new flight-friendly Presentation Master from Victorinox - of original Swiss Army Knife fame - is a USB flash drive with an extremely cool (and admittedly largely futile) twist.
It forsakes the staple gadgets - knife, nail file and scissors - and swaps them for an 8GB flash drive, complete with a biometric fingerprint reader as security. The reader is so advanced that it can even check the oxygenation levels of the blood - only useful to those of us regularly hunted by assassins when on a business trip, but still a snazzy feature.
Victorinox has claimed that it is unhackable - anyone trying to bypass the hardware encryption will trigger the self-destruction of the drive, rendering it completely useless to the nasty piece of work trying to access your files. Similarly, if anyone tries to use simple force to access your files, the drive will pretend to break, or display fake files to put the less experienced hacker off the scent.
And if you do want the classic tools included, a non-flight version only costs £8 more. But the gadgets don't stop there. This USB also has built-in Bluetooth, enabling you to control a PowerPoint presentation from up to 10 metres away, and a laser pointer to wow that room of business bods you have to present to.
Ok, so most of us don't have anything of any interest on our flash drives, and even those who do probably don't need this level of security. But how many people can claim to have a fingerprint-scanning, self-destructing USB stick? The correct answer is those who can afford it. With prices starting from £176 on Amazon, this hi-tech contraption is anything but cheap. If you want strong data protection, this is the practical device for you. Alternatively, if you've got a bit of cash to splash, it's a handy thing to have in your pocket for your travels.
