1502: Arrival of Christopher Columbus in Honduras. He baptised the country "Honduras", which signifies "deepness" in Spanish.
1821: Independence of the country.
1823: Annexation for a short period of time by the Mexican empire. Then, it joins the United Provinces of Central America.
July 1967: Invasion by Salvador.
From 1972 to 1983: The country is governed by the military.
1985: José Simon Azcona Hoyo becomes President
1989: Rafael Leonardo Callejas is elected President.
1993: Carlos Roberto Reina is elected President.
January 27, 1998: Carlos Roberto Flores Facusse becomes President
