A hotel which deserves its 4 stars and enjoys an ideal location. Amsterdam is a lively place and this hotel allows guests to enjoy it thanks to its dream location at the heart of events. Moreover, the kindness of the staff and the friendly atmosphere are well-appreciated.
De Roode Leeuw Amsterdam has an ideal location from which to explore the city, its museums, its stores, its ambience: it is located on Damrak, the main downtown street which joins the station at the famous Dam Square.
The hotel has remained independent and does not belong to any chain although it has existed since 1911.
This large 1911 building is above all remarkable because of its restaurant which takes up the whole ground floor. The barely noticeable hotel entrance opens onto a front desk housed in a small lobby. The rooms, all of a different size, are scattered among 4 floors.
There are 79 rooms have a classical decor but with the latest equipment with flat panel TV and two telephones. All rooms are different in size but large enough to accommodate a double bed and a desk. All bathrooms are small and most of them have showers. All of them will be renovated at the beginning of 2008 because they are a little old. The dry line is really practical for those who stay for some time. For hungry people, cakes, aperitif and small bottles of water are provided.
The superb pub with a quite sophisticated red and wood decor. Expect to pay ?10 to ?16 (£8 to £12) for the courses. You can select the economic option which includes breakfast, lunch and dinner for ?32 (£25) and taste an excellent traditional cuisine in a typical and warm setting.
