GastronomySofitel the Grand, one of the best hotels in Amsterdam, if not the best, is the place where celebrities meet. Luxury, comfort, and gastronomy are gathered in a building dating back to the 14th century and located in the heart of Amsterdam. One can only bow and applaud.
The hotel enjoys an ideal situation very close to famous museums and shopping streets in the heart of the Red Light District. And at night, find restaurants, bars, and coffee shops easily, as they are within a walking distance.
The turret placed above the hotel is left from one of the two cloisters on which the hotel was built. Queen Beatrix got married in this hotel in 1966.
Access to the hotel is through an inside, paved, chateau style courtyard where a florist has a shop. This large building full of charm and rich in history surrounds the courtyard. Doormen and a parking valets welcome clients in front of the hotel whatever the weather. A large hall with a warm, quiet atmosphere opens onto the inside garden. This building which might date back to 1400 is a former convent. Its was used for many purposes until 1808 when it became the Amsterdam City Hall until 1991. This hotel is a genuine museum and even houses a chapel where weddings are celebrated, the former boardroom of the city hall and its woodworks, art works offered by heads of states, etc. The hotel offers such an architectural, historical, and artistic interest that during 2007 heritage days, visits were organized and attracted thousands of visitors.
And to end on a high note, the hotel has a pool and a sauna, ideal to relax after a long walking day.
182 rooms with classical decor - carpets, flowered curtains with pink tones. No this is not kitsch but classy and warm! The best moment is when going to bed, giving one the feeling of returning to childhood. The "Mybed" mattresses, which equip all Sofitel hotels, are ultra smooth and make you feel like you are falling asleep in a bassinet. True enjoyment!
Spacious bathroom with bathtub, bathrobes, slippers, and Roger Gallet products.
The Roux cafe, a trendy brewery, serves refined meals and offers a view on one of the most beautiful Amsterdam canals. From the breakfast buffet to the à la carte dinner, there is nothing to question.
When waking up, options are multiple: pastries, all kinds of yogourts, juice and fruits, without forgetting eggs, ham, cheese, and salads.
À la carte, top quality and original dishes. Taste the raw tuna with a Parmesan tile as a starter... delicious!
And for snacks and aperitifs in a warm environment, the Lounge Bar, which can serve you in the garden just as the restaurant.
