The Novotel in Athens has the advantage of a central location and a level of comfort up to this chain's standing. The view from the swimming pool nestled on the roof is very pleasant.
The Novotel is located in the town centre, 1.5 miles from the Acropolis (5 minutes from the subway station that stops there) and a few blocks from the National Archaeological Museum. In order to reach the airport, located 14 miles away, it takes at least an hour's drive (the hotel offers no shuttles). Piraeus is located about 6 miles away.
The Novotel provides the level of comfort guaranteed by this major international chain. Its customers seek more impeccabble services than a special ambiance and a typical setting. The majority of the guests are local and European businessmen who visit regularly during the year (25% French).
The modern 7-storey building does not leave any particular impression. It is a big and modern hotel (it opened in 1988), with 195 rooms (including 180 doubles and 4 suites) and offers a modern and rather chic setting. The hotel has a large entrance hall of about 1,615 ft², all in marble, a shop, a bar, a swimming pool (about 860 ft²) on the hotel's terrace overlooking Athens, meeting rooms and a free parking lot.
The rooms are spacious (161 ft²) and have standard amenities and decor, quite carefully designed for the chain's standing (warm tones, carpeting, lamps mixing wood and metal, etc.). Satellite TV, direct dial telephone, air conditioning, a mini-bar, a safe and a pleasant bathroom with a bathtub, a hair dryer and large sinks in all rooms.
The restaurant offers an international menu of good quality, with a few original local specialties (octopus with mashed beans, Cretan cheese rolls, etc.). The restaurant's dining hall is modern, but the decoration is a bit dull. It can accommodate a few hundred people. Breakfast is served buffet style.
