Well locatedThe InterContinental Bangkok is a huge town hotel. Situated just opposite the Holiday Inn of Bangkok, this establishment does not show the same modernity as its neighbour building. Its guests are mainy businessmen, which is not surprising considering the huge conference rooms of the hotel. It has an ideal location for shopping lovers: the hotel is surrounded by shopping centres!
The InterContinental Bangkok is situated 20.5 miles from the airport of Suvarnabhumi, which is around thirty minutes by car, if you do not drive during rush hours. You can reach it by cab (around $ 13 per transfer), by train, by bus... The hotel is situated in the crossroad between the business and the shopping areas.
The establishment is surrounded by shopping centres and has a sky train station nearby.
Although the hotel has a beautiful spa, the Royal Health Spa, note that there are numerous massage shops in the shopping centres surrounding the hotel. The Thai massage will only cost you 250 baths (which is a bit more than 4 pounds sterling).
A huge entrance hall overlooks outside thanks to its big bay windows. Round-shaped, the reception is below the mezzanine of the first floor. Big white columns link the floor to the high ceilings. A huge flower jar dominates in the middle of the hall. The InterContinental benefits from a prime location for its swimming pool: it is on the 37th floor... Its round shapes are surrounded by fountains, which is of course kitsch, but nice as a whole. The clients can have a drink in the water thanks to the bar located on the water level.
The establishment has also a spa, the Royal Health Spa, on the 37th floor, renovated in 2008. They especially offers massage and hydrotherapy. It disposes of thirteen massage rooms and two relax rooms. In addition, couples can ask a massage in the same room.
The 372 rooms of the hotel include 381 superior rooms, 67 club room and 39 suites. They are all designed in the same way, but their size and equipment differ according to the category. The colours are harmonious and you will find a comfortable fitted carpet. The fair wood furniture is very standard and lacks originality. However, nothing to say with regard to the equipment: discreet air conditioning, safe, TV, minibar filled with tea and coffee kit, direct international line, hairdryer and 24 hour room service. Every morning you will find a newspaper at your door.
The five bars and restaurants of the hotel will allow you to taste different cuisines. The Fireplace Grill offers seafood but also meat dishes for lunch and dinner. The Summer Palace bustles about Chinese cuisine for lunch and dinner. With regard to the Expresso, you can have all your meals there from 6 am to 11 pm buffet style, in a rather heavy setting. The restaurant also offers real brunches on Sundays. With regard to bars, the Balcony Lounge will satisfy your tea time, when the Deli will take care of your appetite by offering sandwiches, salads and cakes...
