The hotel is located on the seafront, 2 miles away from the village of Bel Ombre. The airport is 18 miles away. It takes about 1 hour to make the transfer to the hotel.

The Telfair was built on the land of a former sugar cane factory, the Domaine de Bel Ombre. The house has preserved its colonial style. It houses a gastronomic restaurant, the Chateau de Bel Ombre. The restaurant is open for breakfast, tea time and dinner. A beautiful view opens from the crank onto French gardens and the lagoon in the back of the landscape.To eat there, take reservations for a meal at the reception of the Telfair. Free shuttle service is available upon request.

Remember also that the Telfair hotel is very well equipped to accommodate families. Its rooms can accommodate up to 2 adults and 2 children. And most importantly, the mini-club welcomes small children aged over 2 years, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. without interruption. A private swimming pool, television, playground and special menus are offered at meal times : everything is provided to treat the guests like kings.

Opened in December 2004, the Telfair htoel was originally designed as a colonial-style hotel larger than life. 20 one-storey pavilions are scattered in the heart of an area of approximately 10,400 hectares ( 6.2 miles in length and 10 metres in width ) pleasantly enhanced by a golf course, lawns lined up with lemon trees, flowery gardens and shaded by coconut trees. The advantage of the hotel is also the river covered with water lilies, which crosses the area. Do not hesitate to book a room that overlooks the river : the panorama is as much beautiful as if you face the lagoon. As for the decoration, the creamy white colour dominates, both on the outside ( balustrades and painted wood panelling ) and on the inside ( roof of the main bar with visible framework ). The furniture is made of exotic wood, in the style of the India Company. During the day, the hotel's life focuses on the swimming pool ( 30 x 15 m ) extending along the land through the main bar and along the seashore through a beach restaurant. Enough peace is ensured by the arrangement of deckchairs ( made of wrought iron and not too tightly set up ) and the distribution of relaxation areas ( the swimming pool and the beach ). Towels are made available.

Out of all 158 rooms in the hotel, 60 overlook the lagoon, 60 overlook the river and the others are oriented towards the swimming pool and the gardens. With an area of at least 54 m², they can accommodate 2 adults and 2 children or 3 adults. You will appreciate the lay out, both plain and refined, which includes a window with sliding panels between the bathroom and the bed head. Furniture inlaid with woven rattan, old-style gravures on the walls, many cushions in cotton or silk ... To add more romantic details, opt for a deluxe room : the bed will have a canopy with muslin curtains. There are a balcony or a terrace with garden furniture made of aged wood in all the units, television, telephone, a mini-bar, a tea / coffee kit, air conditioning and a fan. The amenities are very comprehensive and include a fruit basket upon arrival and a plate of pastries every night .

At the main restaurant, the Anabella, the kitchen is fitted out as an open space. You can choose to eat not far away, at the chef's table, in the adjoining India Company style pavilion or under the crank which overlooks the gardens. It is a pity that the furniture in this part of the restaurant is made of rattan, with tables a bit tightly set : the appeareance is less fancy. Full buffet breakfast. Dinner is served at the table. The dishes, tasty and attractively presented, offer French-Mauritian flavours ( seafood with curry cream and green apple, red mullet fillet with a stew of young vegetables ). Other options : the seafood restaurant on the beach, the gastronomy restaurant at the Chateau de Bel Ombre and the Mediterranean cuisine of the restaurant-bar installed between the pool and the lagoon.

The Telfair hotel is located along the beach of Bel Ombre ( exposed to the wind ) which stretches over several miles. Its fine sand is regularly cleaned. Deckchairs ( in exotic wood ) and sunshades are set up on approximately 800 metres. You can reach the lagoon in a few strides : the low difference in height in the water makes the beach well suited to children. However, adults will have to go till the limit of buoys to swim. To enjoy more peace, the water sports base is located at one end of the beach. If you want to order a drink without getting up from your deckchair, just indicate it with a small flag. Sunshades made of cane fiber, teak deckchairs : you just have to let yourself rocked by the wind in the filao trees and coconut trees.
