FamilyThis cheap and cheerful property may not boast the bells and whistles of other hotels in Bodrum but it isn't a bad choice if you accept it for what it is. With a convenient location in Gumbet, walking distance to both its beach and nightlife centre, Club Paloma is close to everything you may need. Just over the hill is central Bodrum, which is easily reached by taxi or 'dolmus,' the local bus service that runs frequently, day and night.
In the heart of Gumbet and a few minutes walk to the beach, the Club Paloma Apartments are located less than a mile to the centre of Bodrum and about 20 miles from the Milas-Bodrum international airport.
Guests are charged an extra 2 euros (£1.65) per day to use the safety deposit box at reception, and 7 euros (£5.85) per day to use the air conditioning in the apartments.
Built in 1994 and last renovated in 2007, Club Paloma consists of 70 standard self catering apartments each with a capacity of up to four guests. The charming apartment buildings, white with purple trim, are partly hidden by tumbling plants and the pretty bougainvillea typical to the region. The lagoon style pool, surrounded by a smattering of plastic sun loungers, is large for the hotel, while the surrounding gardens are attractive and well maintained. The other public areas of the establishment are also kept clean and tidy. Reception is open 24 hours a day and there is free WIFI connection in the pool area. There are few facilities on site as it is a group of apartments and not a hotel as such; however there is a small games area as well as a kid's pool.
The apartments are simple but comfortable; cream walls, plain furnishings, and tiled floors, plus a kitchenette and a tiny TV with but five channels. Each apartment features a small terrace or balcony with some apartments sharing these, practical for groups travelling together. The apartments are almost 40m² which is a bit of a squeeze for four guests, but comfortable for two. The bathroom is small with an equally small shower and while it is clean guests are not provided with toiletries. The real shame though is the fact that the dining setting inside each apartment is made of plastic which cheapens an otherwise attractive accommodation.
Club Paloma is a group of self catering apartments but there is one restaurant, a separate snack bar and pool bar available for guests. The restaurant is large and open yet sheltered (with the famous 'Turkish Night' once a week), the snack bar offers Western foods especially popular with the mostly British clientèle and the well-stocked pool bar is open until 3:00am.
The Club Paloma Apartments are only 300m to the pebbly beach at Gumbet but unfortunately it is not one of the region's prettiest beaches. The large population of British holidaymakers frequents the side by side bars and restaurants that look out to the bay where there is often loud music. There are many yachts anchored in the bay so the water might not be the most clean however there is a pleasant view of the cluster of white houses on the hills high above Gumbet town.
