The Cala Esmeralda is a comfortable and modern hotel thatis suitable for couples. Here relaxation is mandatory!
The hotel is located in the north of Cala D'Or, a drab touristic station but which has great beaches. It is located 9 miles away from the nice city of Porto Cristo and 22 miles away from the airport ( about 40 minutes driving by car ).
Two times a week, different artists present evening musical shows. The hotel doesn't have an animation team. If they want to have sportive facilities the clients have to go at the nearby hotel which is more animated.
Close to Cala D'Or, the seaside resort where the hotel is located, you will find beautiful beaches. Cala Mandrago is a bay full of beaches with turquoise waters...stay away from it, however, during the weekends when Mallorcan come to meet there.
Built in 1973 and renovated in 2004, the Cala Esmeralda is a modern and comfortable hotel, despite its charmless exterior architecture: a massive block of 5 levels. While the hospitality is great, the establishment lacks atmosphere. The entrance hallway, flowery and furnished with rattan, air-conditioned and with background music is really nice. But the common parts, even if they are comfortable and decorated with care, look somehow apathetic. A small patio surrounds the first swimming pool of the hotel (soft water) located after the salon-bar that opens only in the afternoon. Plastic furniture. The snack-bar, located 10 m away from the hotel is very charming. Located on a side of the hill, it offers on several levels tables and beach chairs as well as a small swimming pool of salted water surrounded by a green carpet... But the view overlooking the small beach and the pine wood shadow are really nice.
The 151 rooms of the Esmeralda are clean and bright. All of them are fitted out with individual air-conditioning, a mini-bar( empty), TV, a direct telephone international line, a pretty spacious bathroom with bathtub and a hair-dryer. The balcony covered with blue tiling is equipped with a small table and two plastic chairs. The view of the sea is pleasant but spoiled a bit by the car park in front of the hotel. The other class of rooms offer a view of the pool. Otherwise, the furniture is standard, made of laminated wood and the walls are simply beige, with no other decorations.
The restaurant of the hotel, air-conditioned is nicely arranged under a sun lounge. The tables are well spaced out and the pillars that separate them are decorated with mirrors. The cuisine served at breakfast and dinner, even though local and international$nbsp; is however pretty good. A cook offers you a "show cooking" with meat and fish grills. Once a week, Mallorcan and Spanish evenings are held. For breakfast, the clients should go to the snack bar located near the small beach.
The beach of the hotel would be really perfect if it weren't so crowded . It is located 50 m away from the establishment, so you only have to pass over the car park. Bordered by a pine wood, you will enter here through pathways of sloping sand or by stairs. The waters are truely turquoise and the sand is white and fine. The small creek is shared between the nearby hotels which doesn't leave any space for nautical activities. If you want nautical activities, you will have to go at Cala Mondrago, a few miles away from there.
