RestThe Husa Zenith Hotel is a basic and charmless 3 star establishment in Cala Mayor located quite some way from the sea. The surrounding hotels are reminiscent of city suburbs, although the rooms in the higher storeys do offer fantastic views over the sea.
The Husa Zenith Hotel is located in the centre of Cala Mayor, some 3 mi from the city of Palma, 11 mi from the airport, and 600m from the beach.
The hotel is located near the King's summer residence. In the past, most of the guests staying here were Germans who came to spend 2 or 3 of the winter months at the hotel. Nowadays, the hotel attracts a greater mix of nationalities.
Built in 1966 and renovated in 2001, the Husa Zenith is a 93 room hotel that can accommodate up to 180 guests. The owners were in the process of replacing the furniture when we visited. Francisco and his French wife have owned the establishment from almost the very beginning. There is still an old telephone switchboard in the entrance hall, and the wooden bar is flanked by a pretty fireplace that is no longer in working order. Although the hotel is clean, it completely lacks charm. The nightclub is decorated in red and silver, and is open in the summer. The outdoor swimming pool, which measures 5x18m, is surrounded by lemon trees, and a number of gum trees are dotted around the tennis court. Although it looks rather run down, it will serve its purpose if you feel like a bit of physical activity. The hotel has a paid parking area.
The level of comfort in the guest rooms is minimal, but at least they are spacious. The bathrooms have a hair dryer and are not very well lit. All of the rooms are equipped with satellite television, a radio, a telephone, and a safe, which may be used at no additional charge. A third of the rooms have views of the sea, another third overlook the mountain and the remaining third are located along the side of the building and afford partial views of the sea. The colour scheme chosen for the painted walls and the curtains is based on light, pastel shades. The rooms are furnished with an armchair and a desk, and there is a table with chairs on the small balcony.
The ground floor restaurant serves breakfast from 7:30am till 10:30am and the cuisine is basic Spanish fare. In summer, guests can book in under a half-board package, but most visitors choose one of the many little restaurants in the nearby district of Gènova for their evening meal instead.
