Hotel Calette

On Cefalu's ledge, 0.5 mile from downtown. To reach the hotel from Palermo airport (located 60 miles away), allow about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

The Calette is well located for exploring Cefalu. It is located at a 15 minute walk from downtown when you go along the path bordering the sea. This hotel, which is small and has a private setting, is not recommended for families. It is more suitable for couples seeking a refined accommodation not far from the main attractions.

A group of low buildings with whitewashed façades and windows decorated by wrought iron grating, the Calette offers a typical Mediterranean ambience. It was built in 1969 and renovated in 2001. Similar to the lounge of a private house, the reception has a desk-counter behind opens a large bay window. Through an adjoining corridor, you can access the gardens and the pool. Spreading on 1,000 square feet, it is surrounded by a paved solarium that overlooks the sea. You can linger here with pleasure, comfortably lying on a teak deckchair or in one of the wrought iron garden lounges. For those wanting to put finishing touches to their relaxation, they can go at the sauna or paddle in the jacuzzi.

The 67 rooms overlook the sea. Those located on the ground level overlook a pleasant lawn where you can take a nap on a teak deckchair. Its is a pity that the railroad passes right behind the hotel: the trains (about half a dozen per day) may disturb sensitive ears. Those who appreciate the charm of a balcony can choose the rooms on the first floor. Overlooking the pool, the latter is equipped with a teak garden lounge. The rooms are fitted out with traditional varnished wood furniture and bronze fabrics for the curtains and the bedspreads. Air-conditioning, mini-bar, direct telephone line and satellite TV. In the bathrooms, unfortunately small, just like the room, there is a shower, a hair-dryer and welcome products.

The restaurant has two rooms. Breakfast is served in the room overlooking the pool. Semicircular, with bay windows all around the room, it has a bright and simple ambience, accentuated with white rattan furniture. Nicely set up, the breakfast buffet includes a citrus fruit squeezer to prepare fresh orange juice a nice selection of dishes: cereals, boiled eggs, bacon, cheese, cooked meats, cakes and small breads. At noon, you can have lunch outside, next to the pool, where salads, grills and pasta are served. For dinner, the second room offers a traditional decor - dry bouquets and varnished wood china buffet. The courses on the menu are simple but delicious: ham and melon, ravioli, lamb with herbs and grilled fish.

The beach is located below the hotel. It is accessed via a staircase that opens onto a concrete sundeck overlooking the Meditarranean Sea. This is where the deckchairs and the sunshades are installed, as the beach, which is actually a small pebble cove, does not offer enough space for relaxing. Be carefuk of the rocks in the water: you'd better wear plastic beach sandals if you want to be on the safe side. Finally, it is a pity that the view offered is of the seawall on the new merchant port of Cefalu on one side. But you can always watch the other side, where the Mediterranean Sea squints its turquoise water up to the skyline. Contemplative people will be very pleased, sport lovers a little less, since no water sport is offered.
