Hotel Oasis Papagayo

The Oasis Papagayo hotel is located on the heights of Corralejo city, on the north coast of Fuerteventura, in a large 25-acre space, and 2,952 feet from the beach and downtown, and 1.5 miles from the natural Park of Corralejo dunes. Allow 40 minutes for transfers from the airport, located about 25 miles south.

A member of the Canarian hotelier group named Oasis Fuerteventura, which also includes the Oasis Village in Corralejo, the Oasis Papagayo looks like a apart-hotel with a kitchenette in the rooms, a mini market and a nearby laundry. Bowling lovers will be very happy with the nice hall located right near by. A shuttle serves the Corralejo beautiful beach of dunes from 10:30 AM to 4 PM, for a 2-euro fee (£1.5). Built in 2003, the Oasis Papagayo hotel is open all year round like the majority of the hotels in Fuerteventura; they enjoy an eternal spring climate. Finally, the Waterpark Baku theme park, is located 165 feet from the hotel.

Lodging advice:

Because the hotel area is broad, we highly recommend the bungalows located close to the reception, the restaurant and the main pool for those who do not like to walk long distance. The farthermost bulgalows will offer more tranquility. Four rooms are adapted for people with disabilities.

The Oasis Papagayo includes 381 appartments, of which 30 have 2 rooms, and 17 high-standard villas (each is equipped by a pool). All are allocated in ochre single storey bungalows, in a large tropical garden. A multi-sport field, a mini-golf course and no less than 4 pools (open from 10 AM to 6 PM) are spread out in the area: an enormous pool with a slightly sloping access mimics a beach - from there you can see a large fountain in the middle, close to the à la carte restaurant. There is second pool of salt water, a little smaller, air-conditioned during winter, with a playground, a hot tub hidden behind the vegetation and a small 3.5-feet depth pool for kids. You can find numerous beach chairs, sunshades, showers and toilets. Towels are available at the reception for an average 0.6-euro charge per a day, or 3.65 euros a week (£0.5 and £3). Along the numerous floral paths crisscrossing the tropical garden, you will have the opportunity to see the astonishing ''cat cafe'' - small tents housing water and food for cats roaming the area. Next to the complex, a shopping centre houses lots of bars, pubs, small shops and restaurants (including an Italian pizza place called Don Corleone and the Pinocchio (ice-cream) and a bowling. 

The rooms of the Oasis Papagayo are the best features of the hotel. Spacious and nicely decorated with wooden furniture, they don't look like the standard rooms that we see in the majority of the hotels. Located on the ground floor or in bungalows, they have patios fitted with a table and 4 chairs, a safe with an electronic code (?2.50 / week, ?15 / week plus a ?10 deposit, that is £2, £12, and £8), direct international telephone line, and a satellite TV (29 channels, remote control hung on the walls). You have to rent the TV from the reception: ?12 a week (£10) plus a ?20 deposit (£16). To make up for the absence of the view of the sea, a painting of an open window overlooking the island of Lobos and its vulcano, located nearby, creates a skillful illusion. Another painting of a nice parrot (papagayo in Spanish) in tropical colours serves to cheer up the complex. Installed in the hallway between the living-room (including a wooden table and a sofa-bed) and the room, facing the bathroom a fully equipped kitchen offers a refrigerator that includes a bottle of water for free, two electrical plates, an oven microwave, a toaster, a place setting, dishes and facilities for tea and coffee. After your trip to the mini-market located in the neighbour shopping centre, a good lunch waits for you on the charming country style wooden table, embellished by a fruit basket, suitable for a simple meal! There is no fan nor air-conditioning. The spacious bathroom includes a bathtub equipped by a handled door and a flexible shower, two soaps and non-separate toilets. You can rent a hair-dryer at the reception for ?8 a week (£6) plus a ?10 deposit (£8).

The Oasis Papagayo buffet serves breakfast from 8 AM to 10 AM and dinner from 6 PM to 9 PM. People are not too crazy about the buffet, since the rooms include a kitchen, there are many restaurants around, and the food is not that great! Thematic evenings are held on Thursdays and Sundays. The a la carte restaurant located close to the pool is worthy of a visit: in an original setting, typically decorated (birds cages, plant pots hang on the ceiling, trunks of trees, classic wagon), you are offered Canarian, Mexican and Chinese specialities from 5:30 PM to 11:30 PM. The restaurant offers a patio and barbecue area. During the day, two snack bars located close to the pools offer snacks from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM. In the evening, you can sip your favorite beverages at the Club bar, with happy hour from 6 PM to 7 PM.

Located 2,952 feet from the hotel, the Corralejo beach is not really a destination for vacationers. Most people will take the shuttle from the hotel to get to the wonderful, huge beach of Corralejo dunes, 10 minutes away by bus. A side table is assured every day from 10:30 AM to 4 PM for a 2-euro fee. The view of the natural Park of Corralejo dunes and its vulcanos is impressive. Beach chairs and sunshades are available for an average 3-euro fee.
