A simple but charming family-run hotel in the riverside town of Dalyan, Club Alla Turca is a good choice for both couples and families.
Club Alla Turca is situated in a quiet corner of Dalyan, a 10-15 minute walk to the town centre, and is 22 miles from Dalaman Airport.
The hotel is open between April and October.
There are no pool towels available at the hotel, guests must supply their own.
WIFI connection is free throughout the entire hotel. Guests who do not have a laptop may use the Internet corner (one computer only) found between the main restaurant and the lobby.
We hadn't even passed through the lobby and we were already impressed: Ottoman antiques, kilims (Turkish carpets), traditional costumes and exquisite ceramic objets d'art make for something a bit different from your usual 'club' hotel reception.
Club Alla Turca is made up of three dark custard coloured buildings which overlook a large free form pool (with swim-up bar) - at 550m² apparently the largest swimming pool in all of Dalyan. A handful of sun loungers follow the pool's curves while attached is a Jacuzzi and nearby a children's pool.
Lush, well-maintained gardens feature exotic flowers such as bottle brush and hibiscus; throughout the grounds guests will find various quiet corners for relaxation. In one area sun beds are arranged on a wooden deck under the shade, in another a hammock is suspended under the trees, and in the far corner of the property a 'garden bar' (open in high season) and white-curtained cabanas. While there aren't any sporting facilities as such, there is a ping pong table nestled in the gardens and for younger guests, a kids' playground.
There is no health and wellbeing facility however the hotel has an agreement with a nearby spa that provides a courtesy pick-up and drop-off service. Basic beauty treatments and massages are available from a therapist who visits the hotel twice a week; guests must book in advance.
There are 86 rooms at Club Alla Turca spread throughout three 3-storey buildings (no elevators), one of which backs on to a pomegranate orchard. The room numbers are hand-painted on tiles that hang above the door. There are several categories of room, including standard, deluxe, bay window and attic. For the lovebirds there is also a honeymoon suite available however we found the standard rooms much more charming...
Standard rooms are decorated in oyster blue and chocolate tones and feature lovely furnishings with dark wooden or wrought iron detail. Evoking the traditional Ottoman style, these rooms are warm, cosy and very comfortable, even if they are not particularly spacious. Although the bathrooms are small they are immaculate. Standard rooms also feature a balcony and small old-fashioned TV (no plasmas yet).
The bay window rooms feature the same style but boast a little extra room thanks to a large corner lounge by the window. The standard attic rooms are an example of a more contemporary design (some rooms are interconnecting) and feature a neutral palette of mocha, cappuccino and crisp white. The deluxe rooms meanwhile are found on the top floor (available only via direct booking with the hotel) and are spacious and open plan with a large plasma screen TV and Jacuzzi. Their look is also contemporary - we loved the gorgeous plum velvet sofa with oversized cushions.
Food and drink are available on B&B and half board meal plans. There is a snack bar open for lunch between 12:00pm and 4:00pm which serves Turkish and international cuisine. It is housed under a pergola covered in beautiful pink, red and yellow bougainvillea. Upstairs, the open-air terrace restaurant overlooks the pool, opening for the special five course fish night (high season only). The simply decorated main restaurant is found in the main building. An open buffet dinner is served daily for half board guests; B&B guests can upgrade for an extra 30TL (£11.60) per person. There are two bars on-site - in the garden and poolside - the latter accompanied by a big screen TV so that guests don't miss the big matches.
